Tomorrow, Lionsgate will drop the first trailer for Rupert Sanders' remake of The Crow. Starring Bill Skarsgård (as the titular vengeful spirit) and FKA Twigs (as his doomed girlfriend), this is a film that's been in the works for a long, long time. Countless filmmakers, screenwriters, and would-be Eric Draven's came and went over the years, but Sanders finally got the damn thing made. For anyone who's been following this remake's arduous journey to the big screen, the imminent arrival of its trailer feels borderline unbelievable.
Today, Lionsgate has dropped the film's first teaser trailer, though "teaser trailer" might be overselling the reality here: this is 13 seconds' worth of out-of-context (and very bloody) footage that still doesn't tell us very much about what this film will look and sound like in action. But, hey, if you're super hyped about all this and wanna check it out, anyway, have at it:
As you can see, that appears to be Skarsgård's Eric Draven emerging from a very large pool of blood, followed by a reveal of the film's logo. So far, so good, but the recently-released photo of Skarsgård in full Crow regalia left some fans divided on the biggest question surrounding Sanders' film: can this remake possibly live up to Alex Proyas' legendary 1994 original? We won't really know until we've seen the damn movie, but tomorrow's trailer oughtta serve as a good barometer in terms of what to expect.
For those wholly unfamiliar with The Crow, here's an official plot synopsis:
“Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
The remake of The Crow hits theaters on June 7th. Stay tuned for more as we draw ever closer to that fateful day, and check back in tomorrow to get a look at The Crow's first actual trailer.
