The Cursed gets an official release date and sweet trailer. Formerly titled Eight For Silver, the film premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. In the late 1800s, a remote country village is under attack by an unknown assailant. Rumors of cursed lands, supernatural forces and demonic creatures are in abundance as the number of disappearances and killings continues to grow. Pathologist John McBride comes to the village to investigate and discovers something more sinister than he ever could have dreamed.
Written and directed by Sean Ellis, The Cursed stars Boyd Holbrook (The Sandman, The Fugitive, Logan), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone, True Detective, Above Suspicion), and Alistair Petrie(Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Manager) in a reimagining of the werewolf legend for a modern-day audience.
Some tweaks have been made to the film between its Sundance debut and wide theatrical release. Sean Ellis says, “Sundance is always an incredible place to showcase your work. In the time that has followed that valuable experience, we took the opportunity to invigorate the film with an updated score by Lorne Balfe; we changed much of the CGI and decided to put back much of the original in-camera effects. We also elevated elements of the story that pay tribute to the incredible multitude of layers that live within the horror genre.” Check out the official trailer and some behind-the-scenes photos below, featuring a silver werewolf grill, someone potentially being buried alive, a sentient scarecrow, a little bit of levitation, and a whole lot of rolling atmospheric fog, just for starters.
The Cursed invades theaters February 18, 2022 from LD Entertainment.
