Hard to believe it, but Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist is over 15 years old. This pitch-black, quick 'n dirty creature feature is one of the best King adaptations ever made, and its utterly ruthless ending (an addition Darabont made to King's source material when the original novella's ending was deemed a bit too open-ended) retains every bit of its power some two and a half decades later.

And here's some great news for fans: this October, The Mist is being released in 4K UHD for the very first time, in a brand-new package ($34.99) that will include both the color and alternate black-and-white versions of Darabont's film.

In addition to both the color/B&W versions of The Mist, you'll also be getting a feature-length commentary with Darabont and producer Denise Huth, deleted scenes (which also feature optional commentary from Darabont), a "Conversation with Stephen King and Frank Darabont" featurette, and over two hours of further bonus material.

But, wait, there's more: in addition to the version pictured above, Best Buy will also be offering a SteelBook edition ($37.99) of The Mist's 4K UHD release that includes all the features mentioned above in addition to alternate artwork and a slipcase. This one's real pretty:

We're very excited to get our hands on this particular set, and have already cleared our schedules for its arrival on October 3rd. Stay tuned for further updates on this release, if and when they roll in!
