Not only is a new Jurassic World movie coming our way, but it seems to be pretty far along in the development process. To that end, we’ve learned that Dr. Steve Brusatte has boarded the upcoming seventh entry in the long-running franchise as the paleontology consultant. In other words, he’s the guy who is going to help the filmmakers as the resident dinosaur expert. Brusatte made the reveal personally on Twitter recently.

Aside from confirming his return, this is also definitive confirmation that the movie is, indeed, happening. It was recently reported that David Koepp, who wrote the script for the original Jurassic Park, is returning to the series to pen the latest installment. That, naturally, raised quite a few eyebrows. Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking 1993 blockbuster remains one of the most beloved mainstream movies of all time, and Koepp was the man who cracked the code in adapting Michael Crichton’s novel for the big screen. Having him back in the saddle is intriguing.
As for Brusatte, he previously served in the same role on 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion. Before that, it was Jack Horner who consulted on the films, lending his expertise in the field of paleontology. The bigger thing here is that the project seems to be pretty far along in development, even though we only just recently learned of its existence. The original report indicated that Koepp’s script is in good shape already, and the fact that other crewmembers have already boarded the film suggests that is indeed the case. It appears as though Universal Pictures isn’t wasting any time.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps but it is said that the film will launch a “new Jurassic era.” No director has been attached to the film as of this writing. Colin Trevorrow directed 2015’s Jurassic World as well as Dominion, while J.A. Bayona helmed 2018’s Fallen Kingdom. There’s also no word on casting at this time. Whether or not any familiar characters such as Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady would return remains to be seen.
The recent trilogy pulled in a combined $4 billion at the box office, which explains why Universal is so keen on getting a new movie off the ground. If the project is as far along as it seems like it is, we should be learning more sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
