An interesting upcoming horror movie just added one heck of a cast member. The Watchers, which will serve as the feature directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, the daughter of M. Night Shyamalan, is currently coming together at Warner Bros. and New Line. Now, it’s come to light that none other than Barbarian breakout Georgian Campbell is joining the thriller.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Campbell will star alongside Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, War of the Worlds). The film in question is based on the novel of the same name by A.M. Shine, originally published in October 2021. As for the story at hand? The plot is described as follows:

“The story follows an artist (Fanning) named Mina who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

Reportedly, Campbell will be playing one of the three strangers. The other two? We’ll have to see how casting comes together ahead of production, which figures to be gearing up soon since this movie already has a release date set for next summer. Given that the daughter of the guy that directed The Sixth Sense is behind the camera, one imagines attracting talent won’t be an issue. M. Night Shyamalan, Nimitt Mankad and Ashwin Rajan are on board as producers, with Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer serving as executive producers. Given that Shyamalan entered a multi-year, first-look deal with Warner Bros. earlier this year, producing his daughter’s first feature seems like a logical fit.

Meanwhile, it feels like just about everyone who worked on Barbarian is breaking out big. Not only does Campbell have this lined up, but Barbarian director Zach Cregger has since lined up multiple high-profile projects, including another original film titled Weapons, which was subject to a pretty sizable bidding war but, ultimately, ended up at Warner Bros. as well. Campbell is also set to star in A Ciegas for Netflix, which is a spin-off of the streamer’s huge hit Bird Box from 2018. It sure sounds like we might have the makings of a new scream queen on our hands, doesn’t it?

The Watchers is currently set to hit theaters on June 7, 2024.
