Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat arrived all the way back in 2007, at which point it became an instant annual watch for Halloween enthusiasts and horror anthology fans. A twisty, darkly comedic, occasionally gory series of stories woven together into one delicious package, Trick 'r Treat has amassed quite the cult following in the years since its release, and we're all wondering the same thing: "Where the hell is the Trick 'r Treat sequel?"

During a recent Q&A following a screening of Trick 'r Treat, Dougherty (who announced the sequel as being in development roughly a decade ago) offered the following update:

"I will say this, because we said it last year at the Beyond Fest screening, the sequel is in active development with Legendary. I'll go so far as to say that we have several drafts of a script. I brought back the same storyboard artist I mentioned before, Simeon Wilkins, so we have a stack of storyboards and a good fat stack of concept art done by Breehn Burns, as well. So it's inching along."

He went on to add that it's now just a matter of working out the particulars with Legendary:

"I'm hoping to talk to Legendary. They've been wonderful, like great collaborators. But so much of it is timing, and as you know, we just got out of a strike, so the next step, fingers crossed, would be looking at budget, of course, schedule, and all the rest ... But we have a really, really great script for a sequel. And I brought in my co-writer from Krampus to do it with me. So Zach Shields and Todd Casey, who did Krampus with me, also helped me write Trick 'r Treat Part 2."

Y'know what? We'll take it! We are great big fans of Trick 'r Treat here at FANGORIA, and will gladly wait for as long as it takes for Dougherty to get this bad boy made. We have no idea what sort of stories Trick 'r Treat Part 2 might contain (we do know, based on previous statements Dougherty's made about the project, that it won't feature any returning cast members from the original), but we're certain whatever he, Shields and Casey have cooked up will be an absolute blast.

Keep hope alive, everyone, and stay tuned for further updates on Trick 'r Treat Part 2 as they roll in.
