The Conjuring universe is returning this fall with another installment, and fans of possessed religious figures take note. The Nun 2 is finally happening, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it! What’s more, it’s promised that a trailer is coming very soon (most likely this week). In the meantime, you can check out the return of the demon nun Valak, as well as Taissa Farmiga reprising her role as Sister Irene from the first film. Check it out.

That looks like a Conjuring movie, alright! Admittedly, we can’t glean all that much from these pictures alone. But these pictures assure us that this movie has gone from something that is merely being talked about to something very real. We’ll surely have a better idea of what to expect when the trailer arrives. In the meantime, the brief synopsis for the sequel reads as follows:

“1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit The Nun follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force Valak – the demon nun.”

In addition to Farmiga, Bonnie Aarons will be returning as Valak. The actress first appeared as the character in The Conjuring 2, which proved a big success. Despite being something of a last-minute addition to that film, the character worked like gangbusters for audiences and paved the way for a spin-off. The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy, arrived in theaters in 2018, and, despite less-than-stellar reviews, it made $363 million at the box office. That makes it the highest-grossing entry in The Conjuring Universe to date, amazingly enough. A sequel was always going to happen, though it took a little longer than we may have thought. The pandemic was, no doubt, a major factor.

This time, Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) is directing, working from a script by Akela Cooper (Malignant), Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe). Joining the cast this time around will be Storm Reid (Missing), Anna Popplewell (Reign) and Katelyn Rose Downey (The Princess).

Aside from this film, the Conjuring franchise will continue with a TV series on the Max streaming service. Additionally, The Conjuring 4 is in the works, though that may well be the final film in the main series. Sadly, that Crooked Man movie is no longer happening though.

The Nun 2 is currently set to hit theaters on September 8. Keep an eye out for the trailer sometime this week, which we’ll surely bring your way. Stay tuned.
