Hot on the heels of the news that WB's new adaptation of 'Salem's Lot might be heading directly to streaming comes another Stephen King-related bombshell: according to a new report, HBO's IT prequel series Welcome to Derry is moving off its planned 2024 release date and into 2025.
The news comes to us from the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, who quote HBO CEO Casey Bloys as saying the following:
“We had had [Welcome To Derry] scheduled for Halloween ’24 but it will likely [be] pushing into ’25."
Curiously enough, Bloys does not mention any particular reason for the release date switcheroo, though it seems safe to assume that this is somehow related to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Bloys also does not mention a new release date, though we will of course be keeping our collective ear to the ground for further updates on that front.
For those just becoming aware of Welcome to Derry: this prequel series has been shepherded to the small screen by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, and is reportedly set in the 1960's. While much of the show's cast (including Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar and Madeleine Stowe) has been announced, it remains unclear who might be filling Pennywise's clown shoes this time around ... though we're holding out hope that Bill Skarsgård will return to the role.
