MY ANIMAL (2023)

My Animal is coming to Sundance this week, but the poster is coming to your eyeballs right here right now. Directed by Jacqueline Castel, written by Jae Matthews, and starring Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Amandla Stenberg, Stephen Mchattie, Heidi Von Palleske, Cory Lipman, and Joe Apollonio, My Animal follows outcast teenage goalie Heather. She longs to play on the hockey team of her small northern town. When she meets and falls in love with newcomer Jonny, an alluring but tormented figure skater, the girls’ relationship blossoms. In the midst of first love, Heather also struggles with her alcoholic mother, her hidden sexual orientation, oh yeah... and a familial curse that transforms her into a feral wolf under the full moon. Heather and Jonny’s secret tryst soon clashes against the conformity of their small community, exposing dangerous truths and igniting a passionate, violent night of personal transformation.

Werewolf love and a locked collar, we're intrigued! Director Jacqueline Castel calls this a "story about inheritance: of what gets passed through our lineage and how that defines us as individuals. It is also a story about first love and how that can serve as a catalyst for radical change, revealing what we most need and what most needs healing within us."

My Animal will have its World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival January 22, 2023 at 11:55 p.m. at The Ray Theatre.
