Good news for horror fans who like to stay home, as Evil Dead Rise is coming to Digital. Warner Bros. has announced that the latest entry in the much-beloved series is debuting on Digital and VOD on May 9, and, if you’re reading this at the time of publication, that means it debuts tomorrow. What’s more, the studio has also revealed that physical media aficionados can get their hands on the Blu-ray.

For the Digital release, the film will be available to purchase for $24.99 through various online retailers such as Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu, and Apple TV, among others. It will also be available to rent for $19.99. Though, as is typically the case these days, that price will come down after a few weeks of the “premium” VOD window. Meanwhile, the Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD editions of director Lee Cronin’s film will arrive on June 27. So those who wish to have a copy to put on the ol’ media shelf will need to exercise a little patience.

Evil Dead Rise only had a few weeks of exclusivity in theaters, but it hardly mattered for the bottom line, it turns out. The movie has already made $115 million worldwide, far surpassing 2013’s Evil Dead at the box office. That’s damn good for a movie with a reported $14 million budget, particularly one that was originally meant to go directly to HBO Max. With numbers like that, don’t be surprised if a sequel is announced sooner rather than later.

One question that still lingers is when the movie will arrive on Max, the recently-revealed new name for the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max. Though Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has made it pretty clear that he’s in no real rush to get hit theatrical movies onto the service and is perfectly content to let the money roll in while the gettin’ is good. So that date may still be several weeks away but it will surely be sometime this summer.

The cast for the film includes Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols and Nell Fisher. With The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi returning as a producer, alongside Ash Williams himself and original producer Rob Tappert. The synopsis for Evil Dead Rise reads as follows:

“In Evil Dead Rise, the action moves out of the woods and into the city, and tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”

Evil Dead Rise is in theaters now.
