birth:rebirth - Still 1

Laura Moss' birth/rebirth is a fantastic updated twist on Frankenstein lore and exploration of a mother's love. A morgue technician (Marin Ireland) successfully reanimates the body of a little girl, but to keep her breathing, she will need to harvest biological materials from pregnant women. When the girl's mother (Judy Reyes), discovers her baby alive, they enter into a deal that forces them both down a dark path of no return.

If you're looking for where to watch Birth/Rebirth you're in luck. While Moss' feature has been streaming on Shudder since November, you can (almost) bring it home. Birth/Rebirth will be available to rent or own on VOD January 22. You can sneak a peek at some first-look clips below. Writer and Director Laura Moss ruminates on the imprint Shelley's work had:

I remember the impact Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein had on me when I first read it as a pre-teen. I was delighted, not only by the material, but by the fact that it was written by a woman from the Victorian era, and it wasn’t about manners, or marriage, but about elemental questions of life and legacy.

This film has been gestating within me for a long time, and when it finally came out as a screenplay in my thirties, it was infused with the anxieties of my particular stage of life. The fear of the transformational nature of giving birth, of a potential loss of identity, led me to craft a story of two very different mothers.

Now let's get to those clips! An unexpected confrontation leads to a shocking discovery, and a bit of re-education.
