This Halloween season, Dark Horse is making use of a horror legend to help tell a handful of spooky tales along with a bloody good collection of creatives. We at Fango are happy to announce the Headless Horseman Halloween Annual, which is set to hit shelves in October.

The book will feature five tales presented by none other than the Headless Horseman in an oversized, 56-page book. We’ve got a look at the main cover art below, which was done by Lukas Ketner, but there will be variant covers by comics icon Mike Mignola (with colorist Dave Stewart) and Mark Spears as well. Dark Horse editor Megan Walker had this to say about it:

“Doing a Halloween-themed anthology has always been a dream of mine, and we were able to assemble a fantastic crew of creators to help carry out that vision. The book is full of fun, creepy, and iconic stories that will scare and delight readers, I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on it!”

As for the incredible collection of spooky storytellers? The book includes contributions from Angela Slatter (Castle Full of Blackbirds), Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter), Olivia Stephens (Darlin’ and Her Other Names), Phillip Sevy (Tomb Raider, The House), Christie Porter, Leah Kilpatrick, Valeria Burzo (Castle Full of Blackbirds), Tyler Crook (Harrow County), Frank Cvetkovic (The House), David Dastmalchian (Count Crowley) and more. That’s an impressive lineup, to be certain, and one that adds to Dastmalchian’s impressive year in horror, which also includes The Boogeyman and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Dastmalchian had this to say about it:

“There is a controlled kind of magic in one-shot, anthological storytelling that follows a tradition of EC Comics, short films and even well-crafted jokes. Getting to collaborate with the amazing Leah Kilpatrick and one of my favorite artists, Tyler Crook, under Megan Walker’s guidance has been the perfect laboratory to cook up a twisted Halloween tale!”

Writer Leah Kilpatrick had this to add:

“Being able to write Horror House with David was such a gift to my spooky heart and seeing Tyler’s beautiful artwork bring it all to life was something truly special. It’s such a treat to be able to be a part of an anthology series and when that series is about Halloween what more can you want!”

The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual hits shelves on October 23. It retails for $7.99 and you can pre-order the book at your local comic shop. If you need help finding a comic book shop in your area, just head to ComicShopLocator.com.
