Good news, dino fans - a new Jurassic World movie is in the works from David Koepp, the writer of Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and, most importantly, Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic Jurassic Park.
The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news exclusively today, report that the project is "far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering of a possible 2025 release date."
While a director is not yet attached to Jurassic World, returning producers include Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who oversaw the original trilogy and the reboot trilogy respectively. Spielberg is set to executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.
Released in 2015, Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and continued the story of the notorious dino-infested island that had been explored in Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park II and Jurassic Park III. The movie kickstarted a new trilogy that included Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and 2022's Jurassic World Dominion.
But according to THR, Koepp's Jurassic World is set to usher in a new Jurassic era with an all-new storyline, suggesting a departure from the characters and storylines established in the franchise previously. That also means, sadly, that it's unlikely we'll see the return of the original Jurassic team, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.
With the entire franchise generating over $6 billion worldwide (with Dominion alone taking a cool $1 billion , it's no wonder that execs are keen to return to the world of Jurassic Park - and quite frankly, so are we. If you can't wait until 2025 to revisit the park and its prehistoric inhabitants, don't forget we're due Netflix's Jurassic World: Chaos Theory at some point this year too!
