It's a great time to be a Godzilla fan. Just a few days after the trailer reveal for Toho's Godzilla Minus One, the legendary kaiju makes a roaring return in the first trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, premiering November 17 on Apple TV+.
Starring Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, Monarch is set within the same universe as Legendary's Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and the forthcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The official plot synopsis reads as follows:
"Spanning three generations, the series follows the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows."
Alongside the father-son acting pair, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski also star. The series is co-developed by Severance's Chris Black and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye). Matt Shakman (Wandavision) directs the first two episodes.
The trailer (seen below) gives us a sneak peek at some big ol' beasts, and our first glimpse of the king of the monsters. We can't wait to see what havoc he's going to wreak!
