SAW X (2023)

Back in December, we learned that Saw X would not be the final installment in Lionsgate's long-running horror franchise. A date (September 27th, 2024) was announced, a tagline ("The game continues") was revealed, and shortly thereafter we learned from producer Mark Burg that Saw XI would not be a sequel to Darren Lynn Bousman's Spiral, but something more in the vein of Kevin Greutert's Saw X.

Well, it's now a few months later, and while we still don't know what story Saw XI will be telling, we do know who'll be helming the film: according to the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, Kevin Greutert (who, in addition to Saw X, also directed 2006's Saw VI and 2010's Saw: The Final Chapter) will be back in the director's chair for Jigsaw's latest at-bat.

As you're surely already aware, Saw X was an unusual chapter in the Saw saga, a feature-length flashback of sorts that took place between the first and second film in the franchise. In that film, Jigsaw traveled south of the border for an experimental cancer treatment that ended up being a scam. Jigsaw then did what Jigsaw tends to do so well, and the back-to-basics approach to the film resulted in Saw X being one of the best-reviewed entries in the series in years, not to mention an earner at the box office.

How will they keep the party going? Maybe this'll be another "flashback" entry in the series. Maybe not. We know that Saw X scribes Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger won't be returning for the sequel, but beyond that ... it's anyone's guess!

Stay tuned for more on Saw XI between now and its arrival in theaters on September 27th.
