Stranger Things may be ending with its upcoming fifth season, but Duffer Brothers are very much staying in the sci-fi business at Netflix. Matt and Ross Duffer are behind a new series titled The Boroughs, which has officially been given a series order by the streaming service, per Deadline. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance fame, created the series, with the duo set to serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Matt and Ross Duffer launched Upside Down Pictures last year and committed to making several projects for Netflix. This new show is just one of several, alongside the recently announced Stranger Things animated spin-off. Now, for the meat on the bones, here’s what The Boroughs is said to be about:

“The eight-episode drama is set in a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, where a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have: time.”

No word yet on casting for the show, but now that they have a green light, those decisions should be on the horizon. The Duffers will also serve as executive producers on the series alongside Hilary Leavitt. They are remarkably busy, as the filmmakers are knee-deep into the final season of Stranger Things, while also developing adaptations of Death Note and Stephen King’s The Talisman for Netflix as well. Get while the gettin’ is good. The Duffer Brothers had this to say in a statement:

“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands. While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.”

Addiss and Matthews had this to add:

“We’re thrilled to be back at Netflix. Working alongside the Duffer Brothers (who are pretty good at making shows) and their team has been a dream come true. They bring the perfect balance of heart and horror to our story. We can’t wait for audiences around the world to unlock the dark mystery buried beneath the sunny facade of The Boroughs.”

The Boroughs does not have a release date set.
