STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4 (2022)

It's nearly time to return to Hawkins, Indiana and the Upside Down as Netflix has released a new full-length trailer for Stranger Things season 4. This would be a big deal anyhow as this remains one of the most popular shows on the streaming service but for horror fans, there is a little something extra to love here as none other than Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, is part of the festivities. Let's check it out.

So yeah, needless to say, there is a lot going on here. The kids are growing up, they are split up, and everything is set to the tune of "Separate Ways" by Journey. But one of the unquestioned highlights is the creepy inclusion of Englund, who is clearly bringing a villainous presence here. Beyond that, there is plenty for genre fans to love, from monsters to blood, and even a sweet guitar solo thrown in there for good measure just to hammer down that '80s throwback vibe. A synopsis for the new season reads as follows:

"It's been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down."

Englund will, of course, always be remembered as Freddy by horror fans, but it doesn't seem like we're getting a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie any time soon, and there is no reason to believe at this stage that Englund would be back even if one does happen. That being the case, it is kind of a treat to see him taking center stage as a big villain on one of the most popular shows in the world right now. This is giving him a proper chance to shine in a way he hasn't been afforded in a very long time. That is as good a reason as any to look forward to the return of Stranger Things this summer.

The cast includes Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler) and Matthew Modine (Dr. Brenner). The Duffer Brothers, who created the show, serve as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Paterson and Curtis Gwinn.

Stranger Things season 4, volume 1 premieres on May 27, with volume 2 set to follow on July 1.
