Hot on the heels of the holiday slasher hit Thanksgiving, Eli Roth is back, in partnership with CryptTV and ShinAwiL, with The Faceless Lady, a scripted VR episodic series hitting Meta later this spring.
Starring Tara Lee (The Fall), Staz Nair (Rebel Moon), Daisy Jelley (How To Date Billy Walsh), Mei Henri (Hijack), Ugo Onwughalu, Sophie Rebecca-Jones, and Ned Dennehy (Peaky Blinders), The Faceless Lady's plot reads as follows:
The Ireland-set storyline is inspired by the real life seventeenth century Irish folklore of Lady Margaret Hodnett who is said to haunt Belvelly Castle in Cork stalking visitors through mirrors and reflective surfaces. Adapted for modern day with a supernatural twist, The Faceless Lady follows three couples who have been invited to a medieval castle in Ireland for a weekend competition where they will either win her games or lose their lives.
The Faceless Lady marks Roth's third foray into the world of horror VR, following Trick-VR-Treat and the Valentine's Day slasher Be Mine. In a statement, the Hostel director expressed his excitement about returning to the virtual world:
“Partnering with Meta on VR originals has been an incredible experience, and I can’t wait for fans to enjoy VR horror in series form with ‘The Faceless Lady.’ Seeing the reaction to ‘Trick-VR-Treat’ and ‘Be Mine’ showed what an appetite genre fans have for this medium and how VR users are experiencing horror through the headset [...] A VR horror episodic series will scare viewers in a way this medium has never seen before.”
The first-of-its-kind immersive series will premiere in VR with the first two episodes on Thursday, April 4 at 5:00pm PT in Meta Horizon Worlds. The Faceless Lady experience consists of six half-hour episodes, with one episode dropping weekly every Thursday after the premiere. Attendees can RSVP for the event in Meta Horizon Worlds HERE.
