André Øvredal's The Last Voyage of the Demeter is just a few weeks away from hitting theaters, and you know what that means: it's time for this film's marketing campaign to heat up! We've seen posters and trailers and heard from the creative team behind the film, but today brings us four new clips.
We'll get to those in a second! First, for those unfamiliar with the story of the doomed crew aboard the good ship Demeter, here's a synopsis:
Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.
Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.
The film stars Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, Straight Outta Compton) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones, The Nightingale) as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans) as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian (Dune, the Ant-Man franchise) as the Demeter’s first mate.
As we previously reported, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a project that's been bouncing around Hollywood for many years. After a number of false starts and dead ends, director André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) stepped up to the plate and finally got the damn thing made. The end result is something Øvredal has explicitly compared to Ridley Scott's Alien, which has all of us here at Fango very excited, indeed.
Universal Pictures dropped four new clips from Øvredal's film on us this morning, each of them showcasing various members of the Demeter's crew as they realize what kind of trouble they're in (note: you won't be getting any peeks at the vampire in the clips below, but you can get a very good look at that bad boy in the latest issue of FANGORIA, which is currently on sale here).
