Back in November of last year, Lionsgate announced a very unexpected new project: a brand-new trilogy based on 2008's The Strangers, to be directed by Renny Harlin. In the time since, we've seen stills and a short clip from the first of these films, The Strangers: Chapter 1, but until today we weren't entirely sure when Harlin's latest would hit theaters.
But now we know!
Yes, as you can see in the Instagram post above, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will land in theaters on May 17th, 2024. Why, that's only about five months away! That'll be here before we know it, and that's good news - we're very curious to see what Harlin and company have done with this long-dormant property.
As of this writing, all we know for sure is what's contained in this synopsis:
“The remake centers on a couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) who drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers.”
Nothing further to report at this time, but rest assured we'll be keeping you informed as further updates on The Strangers: Chapter 1 (and, indeed, the new Strangers trilogy as whole) as they roll in. Stay tuned!
