One thing at a time, though.

Director Ti West is hard at work on MaXXXine, the third film in the trilogy that kicked off with X before arriving at Pearl, and until this very minute we sort of assumed that MaXXXine would mark the end of that trilogy. Not so fast, says Ti West.

In a new interview with YouTube show What's Under the Bed? (originally spotted by Bloody Disgusting), the director reveals he's got an idea for a MaXXXine sequel ... but that he won't be focusing any real attention on that until work's completed on MaXXXine. One thing at a time, people!

Says West:

“There is this one weird idea that I have that is kind of… if I explained it, it would make sense. But we’ll see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”

While it's impossible to speculate what a MaXXXine sequel might entail (we're still not completely sure what to expect from MaXXXine, much less how it might end), it's intriguing to hear that West feels compelled to stay working within this unexpected franchise.

As previously reported, MaXXXine stars Mia Goth, Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. The film follows Goth's Maxine after the events of X and into the seedy underbelly of 1980's Los Angeles, where she'll continue her quest for fame. As of this writing, no release date has been set for MaXXXine, but it's expected to arrive sometime this year via the good folks at A24.

Nothing further to report at this time, but stay tuned for further updates on MaXXXine (and whatever film might follow it!) as they roll in.
