After two long years of waiting for updates on Tilman Singer's Cuckoo, NEON have finally today released a first look teaser at the Hunter Schafer-starring horror - and damn, it was worth the wait.
Written and directed by German filmmaker Tilman Singer (2018's excellent festival hit Luz), Cuckoo also stars Dan Stevens (The Guest, Apostle), Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo) and Jan Bluthardt (the aforementioned Luz).
After its world premiere at SXSW this March, Cuckoo will see a wide release on May 3, 2024.
An official plot synopsis for Cuckoo reads as follows:
Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.
The 34-second long teaser comes complete with our first look at Schafer (well, her back) brandishing a knife, eerie sound design and a terrifying sneak peek at... something. Film buffs will also be excited to know that Singer shot Cuckoo on 35mm, so it's guaranteed to have that gorgeous old-school grain to it.
Cuckoo joins Osgood Perkins' hotly-anticipated Longlegs and Immaculate (which stars Schafer's Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney) as part of NEON's hugely exciting 2024 horror slate.
