Just days after it was reported that Bullet Train director David Leitch was in early talks to direct Universal's upcoming Jurassic World movie, Deadline have exclusively reported today that Leitch will no longer be helming the latest entry into the billion dollar franchise.
According to Deadline: "Insiders say the parting was amicable and that ultimately the studio and Leitch had different visions for the film."
With a release date of July 2, 2025 penciled in on Universal's calendar, the race is now on to find a director who will adapt a script penned by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp.
Koepp's Jurassic World is set to usher in a new Jurassic era with an all-new storyline, suggesting a departure from the characters and storylines established in the franchise previously. That means neither the original Jurassic Park team of Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, nor the Jurassic World duo of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning.
Still returning are producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who oversaw the original trilogy and the reboot trilogy respectively, and of course Steven Spielberg, who directed the iconic 1993 original, who is executive producing through his Amblin Entertainment banner.
Even without Leitch at the helm, the new Jurassic World is still pretty much guaranteed to be a success - the entire franchise has grossed more than $6 billion worldwide, with the most recent entry, Jurassic World Dominion, taking $1 billion alone.
