Since being announced at Konami's showcase back in 2022, news on Bloober's Silent Hill 2 remake has been pretty few and far between - but according to IGN, PlayStation might today have quietly confirmed a release date of this year.

IGN reports that a PlayStation reel released today advertises a whole host of new games for the PS5 expected this year (2024, for those still not adjusted) - and Silent Hill 2 is listed among them.

Released in 2001, Konami's original Silent Hill 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest psychological horror games of all time, seeing the player control a man named James Sunderland who is called to the mysterious foggy town after receiving a letter from his long-dead wife. Notably, the game's fanbase have been somewhat concerned of any story changes that a remake might bring, although Bloober chief marketing officer Anna Jasińska has reassured that there's nothing to worry about in that regard:

"We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernized Silent Hill 2 [...] Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us missing the point while we’re livening up the title. We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up. These are the reasons why Konami entrusted us with the remake in the first place."

If the news is confirmed, 2024 could be shaping up to be a fantastic year for Silent Hill fans. While Christophe Gans' upcoming movie Return to Silent Hill doesn't yet have a release date, filming wrapped last summer, so a 2024 release isn't out of the question.

Of course, until PlayStation confirm a specific date, it's worth taking this news with a pinch of salt - but it's pretty damn exciting nonetheless. We'll have any and all updates for you as we get them.
